PURPOSE:A composition excellent in storage stability and useful in the field of cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, etc., containing a cyanin type monomethine compound and a water-soluble polymer, and having a specified controlled viscosity. CONSTITUTION:A composition containing photosensitizer 201 and a water-soluble polymer of an IOB>=2.5 and having a viscosity (of the system) >=4,000cp. Photosensitizer 201 is a cyanin type monomethine compound, exhibits good antibacterial property against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, and is low in skin-irritating property, so that it is formulated widely in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, etc., for giving thereto a bactericidal activity, a mold-inhibiting activity, etc. This compound is commercially available. ''IOB'' as used above is defined by a numerical ratio of inorganic property to organic property, i.e., a value represented by the equation: IOB=SIGMA inorganic property/SIGMA organic property. Examples of the water-soluble polymers of an IOB>=2.5 include vegetable ones such as quince seed or carrageenan and animal ones such as hyaluronic acid, alginic acid and carboxylvinyl polymers. |
