An anti-theft device according to the invention comprises a ring with a polygonal contour 6 which is engaged on the channels 2 of the steering column 1 and a locking nut 4 which is screwed on the thread 3 of the steering column and which comprises a bore 7 with a groove 8. The device comprises an anti-theft cap 23 which is placed on the end of the column 1 after having removed the steering wheel. This cap comprises a clamp with a turning barrel 30 which actuates a bell cam 31, which moves an axial rod 27 carrying a blocking device with balls 26 which engage in the groove 8. One application is the anti-theft protection of all vehicles equipped with a steering wheel. <IMAGE>
