A kit for constructing a microcomputer terminal should make it possible in a simple manner to adapt the field of application for handy, particularly portable, microcomputers, without problems to the respective requirements and to make it upgradeable. For this purpose, the kit comprises a central processing unit equipped with a flatly rising keyboard and a liquid crystal display and various ancillary devices such as printer, plotter, disc drives, cassette drives, plug-in module memory blocks, telephone modems and the like and also a data display device. For this purpose, the central processing unit is located as hand computer in a housing which can be connected by detachable coupling members to a corresponding housing of one or each ancillary device. The connection is of such a type that the central processing unit can be folded with its operating or display side (keyboard and liquid crystal display) against the top of the ancillary device and/or over its openings as cover. Both the housing of the central processing unit and the housing of the ancillary device have locking means which can be engaged with one another and via which they can be interlocked with one another in the manner of a suitcase. At least one of the housings is also provided with handles for jointly handling the housings interlocked with one another in the manner of a suitcase.
