A sampling apparatus for liquids and high water content sludges having a vertical inflow direction is provided with a sampling tube (4) which has a length of a plurality of metres, if required, by pushing together a plurality of tubes (4). The inlet region between the inlet tip and the tube (4) is furnished with a closure apparatus (25). A flap (14) is arranged in the inlet tip in such a manner that the flap (14) can be controlled by the hydrodynamic force during the insertion movement and by the hydrostatic pressure during the extraction movement into an open and closed state. <IMAGE>
