The yarn-supply apparatus has a rotatable supply-wheel device (15), around the circumferential surface of which at least one friction surface (18, 19) of predetermined width is designed to engage with the yarn and transport the latter, as well as yarn-guide elements which guide two strands of yarn into engagement with the supply-wheel device. To vary the extent of circumferential engagement between each individual strand of the yarn and the friction surface, there are movable yarn-guide devices (26, 27) which make it possible to ensure that the extent of engagement is sufficient for transporting the yarns to the knitting machine when the latter needs yarn and that the extent of engagement is not sufficient for transporting the yarn to the knitting machine when the latter has no longer any need of yarn. Supported at a distance from the outer circumference of the friction surface for the yarn transport is a pair of manually movable yarn-guide members (50, 51) which are adjustable radially by hand, in order to change the extent of circumferential contact between the individual strands of the yarn and the friction surface, so that yarns having different frictional features can be transported by the yarn supply apparatus. <IMAGE>
