PURPOSE:To ensure the fluidity of cooling liquid just after engine starting, in a evaporative cooling device in which the evaporating latent heat of boiled cooling liquid is used for cooling an engine, by arranging a recovery pump, etc. for storing cooling liquid condensed in a condenser, in the vicinity of the engine. CONSTITUTION:A evaporative cooling device cools an engine 1 by absorbing the evaporating latent heat from cooling liquid in a water jacket 2, due to that the cooling liquid in the water jacket 2 absorbs the heat of the engine 1 and therefore boils. The thus generated vapor is led through a vapor passage 6 into a condenser 7 where it is cooled and condensed by an air stream fed from a fan 8, and is returned to the water jacket 2 in the form of cooling liquid under operation of a supply pump 13. In this arrangement, there is provided a recovery tank 30 for storing the cooling liquid condensed in the condenser 7. This recovery tank 30 is arranged as close as possible to the outer wall of the engine 1 so that a heat radiated from the engine 1 readily heats the cooling liquid in the tank 30.
