PURPOSE:To obtain a recording medium having excellent dispersibility of magnetic powder, strength of a coated magnetic film, etc. by incorporating a phenolic resin modified by a butadiene copolymer or acryl copolymer consisting essentially of acrylate into a binder for the magnetic powder. CONSTITUTION:A phenolic resin modified by a polymer consisting essentially of butadiene and copolymerized with acrylonitrile, styrene, a monomer having COOH, a monomer having a carboxylate group, amino group, etc. or a phenolic resin modified by an acrylic copolymer which consists essentially of acrylate and is a copolymer of acrylate and a monomer having OH, COOH and NH2 groups is incorporated into a binder for magnetic powder and a magnetic paint consisting essentially of said binder is prepd. The paint is coated on a base and is cured. The recording medium which is free from powder dislodging, obviates blocking and drop-out, etc. and has excellent durability for high density recording with high output is obtd.
