PURPOSE:To increase activity ratio of the ion source by using an alloy Tl-Mg- Se having a constitutional ratio regulated to 50-55:8-12:35-40atom%. CONSTITUTION:Each specified amt. of Tl and Se is charged to a crucible made of carbon or boron nitride and is heated to 180-190 deg.C. After forming the melt of Tl-Se alloy, a specified amt. of Mg is added to the melt and allowed to stand at 200-220 deg.C for ca. 1hr, then, the melt is molded to a specified shape and cooled. The ternary alloy 3 is fitted as an ion source for liquid metal to a reservoir at a tip end of an emitter electrode 2. When the alloy 3 is melted by heating the emitter electrode 2 to a sepecified temp., an electric voltage is impressed to an ion drawing out electrode 4 provided in front of the emitter electrode 2. By this method, ion beam 5 is discharged and transported to a mass separator 7. |
