PURPOSE:To ensure a continuous, stable output characteristic even in the presence of a plurality of laser materials different in ion density by a method wherein the quantity of light to be thrown upon laser materials is adjusted minutely an adjusting circuit so that the quantity to be projected may be adapted to reflect the ion density of a given laser material. CONSTITUTION:The arc lamp is switched ON of each of several solid-state laser units, and voltage-setting rheostats 26a, 26b are adjusted so that the quantity of light projected by an arc lamp upon a laser rod may be equal to a preset value. When there is a rise in temperature in a laser rod, difference due to the lens effect grows prominent. This causes saturation in the high output region induced by the failure of the laser beam to pass through the gaps between laser rods. The difference is balanced by presetting the quantity of light to be applied to the respective laser rods, which is effected by operating adjusting circuits 19a, 19b so that the difference in lens effect attributable to the difference in the ion density of the respective laser rods cancells each other out. Consequently, a laser output characteristic is obtained continuously and in stable manner throughout the range of output from low to high. |
