<p>PURPOSE:To obtain a carburizer for metallurgy capable of being handled with a lifting magnet and giving a high carbon yield by press-molding a mixture of pulverized coke with fine luppe and a binder. CONSTITUTION:Coke breeze of <=1mm. grain size is kneaded with fine luppe and a binder such as asphalt or pitch. At this time, a proper amount of polyphosphoric acid, tannic acid or boric acid is added as an antioxidant for the luppe. The mixture is press-molded to a prescribed shape to obtain a carburizer for adjusting the C content of molten steel in an electric furnace to the desired value when high carbon steel is manufactured by refining in the furnace. The carburizer is easily handled with a lifting magnet and has high specific gravity, so it enters directly molten steel and adjusts the C content of the steel to the desired value in a high C yield.</p> |
