PURPOSE:To turn on a switching transistor (TR) with the charging voltage of a capacitor and to increase a display speed by providing an adress TR and the capacitor to a driving part for each picture element in addition to the switching TR. CONSTITUTION:The address TRTa selected with scanning voltages applied to a row electrode Xi and a column electrode Yi is turned on, and consequently the switching TRTs is also turned on. At the same time, the capacitor C is charged. The TRTs is held on for a specific time with the charging potential of the capacitor C even after the TRTa turns off. Simultaneously, a current flows between the 3rd electrode Zi and the ground and the picture element D of the electrochromic element is put in display writing operation continuously.
