PURPOSE:To read white part as a dummy surely in a short time by providing a white part very near to the reading section for reading information carried by a read body optically, and making the white part movable. CONSTITUTION:When reading the white part as a dummy, a motor 34 is driven to rotate the rotation shaft 36 of the motor 34 in the direction A. At this time, the first original and the first original pressing plate 16 are shifted in the direction B. Then, a coupling pin 22 is coupled with a deep groove 26, and a base stand 2 and the pressing plate 16 are separated. Driving of the motor 34 is stopped at a position where the white part 30 at the end of the pressing plate comes into contact with the apex of a roller 20. Under this condition, light emitted from an LED array 6 is irradiated onto the white part 30. Reading of the white part as a dummy is made by detecting the reflected light by a sensor 10.
