PURPOSE:The titled composition which can dispense with asbestos without causing a decrease in binder retention during vacuum-dewatering a fiber-made board, prepared by mixing a mineral fiber as a base with a binder, a coagulant, sepiolite, and guar gum. CONSTITUTION:A composition for mineral fiber boards, used, for example, as a material for sound-absorbing boards used in building materials such as ceiling or interior boards, prepared by mixing a mineral fiber (e.g., rock wool or glass fiber) as a base with a binder (e.g., starch), a coagulant (e.g., polyaluminum chloride), sepiolite as a reinforcing fiber and a small amount of guar gum as a coagulation aid and having said sepiolite in an amount of 2-10wt% based on the composition. The binder retention during vacuum dewatering of fiber-made boards can be improved by using sepiolite and guar gum, and asbestos harmful to human body can be dispensed with.
