PURPOSE:To improve resistance to pressure desensitization and dye staining, and storage stability under high temp. and high humidity by using a combination of a flat silver halide grain emulsion and a specified cyanine dye. CONSTITUTION:A silver halide emulsion layer formed on a support contains a flat silver halide grains having diameter to thickness ratio of >=5, and at least one of compds. represented by formulae I and II in which each of R1-R5 is alkyl, alkenyl, or aryl, but at least one of F4 and R5 is sulfoalkyl; R6 is H or lower alkyl; X<-> is an anion; Z1-Z4 are each a nonmetallic atomic group necessary for completing a benzene ring; and m, n are each 1 or 2, and when an intramolecular salt is formed, n is 1. The cyanine dyes of formula I and II are dissolved in an org. solvent miscible with water, and it is, preferably, added from the start of the ripening to the time immediately after its end. As a result, pressure desensitization, dye staining, and fluctuation of photographic characteristics under high temp. and high humidity, etc., can be prevented. |
