PURPOSE:To perform the closing of a tap hole by a simple technique, in the baking early stage of mud allowed to fill the tap hole, by inserting a steel rod, around which a metal sleeve is fitted in an engaged state, into the mud so as to allow a part of the sleeve to position at the outer shell part of the mud. CONSTITUTION:After tapping is finished, a tap hole is filled with mud and an opening forming steel rod 2, around which a sleeve 1 is fitted in an inlaid state, is driven into the mud at the baking early or middle stage of said mud by using an opening machine. The driving-in depth of the steel rod 2 is regulated so that the leading end thereof is confronted to the interior of a furnace and a part of the sleeve 1 is contacted with the outer shell 3 of the baked mud. If an appropirate time is elapsed in this state, the sleeve 1 receives heat transfer from the furnace interior and expands to be tightly contacted with the peripheral mud. By this mechanism, the gap 4 generated between the steel rod 2 and the mud is perfectly sealed by the sleeve 1 and the injection of gas from the furnace interior or the flow-out of molten iron can be prevented. |
