PURPOSE:To know an accurate capacity of a battery by using a positive plate mainly comprising cobalt hydroxide containing a specified wt% of nickel hydroxide as a positive active material. CONSTITUTION:The mixture of cobalt nitrate and nickel nitrate having a mixing molar ratio of 1:1 is melted at 80 deg.C, and impregnated in a sintered nickel substrate having a porosity of about 80%, and heated at 230 deg.C for 1hr. This impregnation procedure is repeated five times, then the impregnated substrate is washed with hot water and dried at 100 deg.C for 1hr to prepare a positive plate. The cobalt hydroxide positive plate obtained contains 35-65wt% nickel hydroxide. Variation of open circuit voltage of this positive electrode during charge-discharge is 200-400mV, and this potential variation is the same in charge and discharge. Accurate capacity of the battery is known by measuring the variation of open circuit voltage. |
