PURPOSE:A polysilsesquioxane having an excellent physiological activity and being useful as a carcinostatic agent, having specified structural units and prepared by dehydratively condensing a gamma-aminopropylpolysilsesquioxane with an aldehyde compound. CONSTITUTION:This polysilsesquioxane has structural units of formula I (wherein Ar is a group of formula II or III and R1 and R2 are each H, alkyl, halogen, phenyl, alkoxy, alkylcarbonyl, alkoxycarbonyl, carbamido, carboxyl, sulfonic acid, nitro, cyano, or the like). This polysilsesquioxane can be produced by, for example, a method comprising dissolving a gamma-aminopropylpolysilsesquioxane of formula IV with an aldehyde compound of formula V in a solvent (e.g., benzene), dehydratively condensing these compounds by heating to a temperature >= the b.p. of the solvent and removing an unreacted aldehyde compound from the reaction mixture by distillation.
