PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a polyamide raw material, a curing agent for epoxy resin, an improver for polyester, etc., by hydrogenating a 11-cyanoundecanoic acid in the presence of a noble metal catalyst by addition of a specific chemical substance. CONSTITUTION:11-Cyanoundecanoic acid, its alkali metal salt, its ammonium salt, or its lower alkyl ester is hydrogenated in the presence of a noble metal catalyst by addition of a chemical compound (e.g., ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, citric acid, condensed phosphate, etc.) having a multidentate ligand which is linked to a metallic ion to form a chelate compound, to give the desired compound. An amount of the chemical substance added is preferably 0.001-0.1, especially preferably 0.02-0.01pts.wt. based on 100pts.wt. feed solution (containing catalyst) to a hydrogenating reactor. EFFECT:A polymer obtained by polymerizing the final reaction product has high melt viscosity and no coloring even if it has the same relative viscosity. |
