PURPOSE:To obtain an image having high quality and high contrast by providing a silver halide emulsion layer contg. >=80mol% silver chloride, a specific amt. of water soluble rhodium salt and specific compd. on a base. CONSTITUTION:At least one layer of silver halide emulsion layer contg. at least 80mol% silver chloride, 1X10<-6>-6.0<=10<-5> water soluble rhodium salt for each 1mol of silver halide and >=1 kind of the compd. expressed by the formula I (R1 denotes an aryl group and may have a substituent. R2 denotes a hydrogen atom or a phenyl group which may have a substituent or an alkyl group of 1-3C) is provided on a base to obtain a silver halide photosensitive material. The water soluble rhodium salt is adequately added in the stage of emulsifying the silver halide.
