PURPOSE:To obtain a hologram diffraction grating which does not generate craking even at high temp. and under high moisture by forming preliminarily an org. titanate coating layer on a substrate then coating photoresist thereon, recording a hologram thereto and developing the same. CONSTITUTION:The org. titanate (e.g.; tetraisopropoxy titanium, tetra-n-butoxy titanium) expressed by the formula I or II (R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R6, R7, R8 are substd. or non-substd. alkyl, aryl, acyl) is dissolved in a suitable solvent and the soln. thereof is coated on a substrate 31 thus forming a precoat layer 33. Photoresist is coated thereon to form a recording layer and a hologram is recorded on the recording layer by using a laser beam and is then developed, by which an intended hologram diffraction grating 35 is obtd. The intensity of the diffraction grating pattern is thus improved by forming the layer 33.
