NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by the formula (R is aromatic hydrocarbon group having 1-2 aromatic rings, 4-37C alicyclic hydrocarbon group or 1- 30C aliphatic group; n1-n4 are 0 or integers 1-50, and the sum thereof is 1- 50; m1-m4 are 0 or 1, and the sum thereof is 1-4). USE:A raw material for diallyl phthalate based resins, having improved heat resistance and electrical characteristics and flexibility and adhesiveness, and usable as one component in unsaturated polyesters. PREPARATION:90-5pts.wt. allyl alcohol is subjected to ring opening and addition reaction with 10-95pts.wt. epsilon-caprolactone preferably in the presence of a catalyst, e.g. a titanium compound or organotin compound, at 140-150 deg.C to give allyl alcohol modified with the epsilon-caprolactone. The resultant modified allyl alcohol is then esterified with a carboxylic acid (anhydride) to afford the aimed compound expressed by the formula.
