The device has a housing (1) which contains rotating plate stacks (10, 11). The plate stacks are immersed with a part of their surface in a liquid-filled trough (20, 21). A fan (2) conveys an air flow through the region of the plate stacks (10, 11), which protrudes from the liquid. The drive of the fan and of the plate stacks (10, 11) is derived from the same motor (7). The motor (7) is fastened to a removable housing upper part (8). At least two plate stacks (10, 11) lie one behind another in the air flow and rotate in troughs (20, 21) which do not communicate with one another.
