The packaging container with shock-absorbing, thermoformed walls consists of films made of foamed plastic which surround the packaged article and form a container opening. The walls consist of at least two films which are welded to one another in the region of the container opening and extend in the remaining region with spacing from one another, enclosing a hollow space in which they come into contact with one another only by means of spacers which consist of thermoformed regions of the films. To produce the packaging container, at least two films located one above the other are heated and shaped to form the packaging container, the two films being welded to one another in the region of the container opening. To form the hollow space, a gas is blown in through at least one of the two films between the two films.
