Method for determining the release of radon from solids, in particular from building materials and their raw materials

The method enables determination of the release of radon from solids, specifically by measuring the radioactive descendants produced therefrom. For this purpose, the specimen to be investigated is mounted in a gas-tight container, the ionised descendants are electrostatically precipitated and their radioactivity is determined. An important field of use is to be the inspection and selection of building materials and their raw materials. The aim is to reduce the radiation burden in new buildings to be erected.
