A casing construction for use, for example, in a nuclear logging tool, is made of two types of material. The tool case (10) is formed of a high density and high atomic number material (relatively opaque to gamma radiation) such as tungsten, and a more transparent window (28) is made of beryllium for example. The window is preferably sealed in the case and a coating is preferably provided on the window to protect it against wear and corrosion. A preferred coating is of thin electroless plated nickel, topped with a thin layer of titanium carbide. |
