PURPOSE:To enable adjustment of the position of an optical fiber by joining parallel two hollow members, passing the optical fiber through one hollow member, fixing the member and deforming the other hollow member. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber 2 which is preliminarily coated with a metal on the outside peripheral is introduced through a circular port 11 provided at one end of a package 1 into the package and is sealed in the part of the port 11 by a brazing filler metal 9. A semiconductor element 5 such as a semiconductor laser is welded via a sub-mount 6 to a pedestal. Another small cylinder 4 is welded and fixed via a small cylinder 10 to the end on the side opposite from a photodetector 7. The diameter of the cylinder 4 is made smaller than the diameter of the cylinder 10 and approximately half said diameter or below if possible. The fiber 2 is fixed in the relative position with the laser 5 by a brazing filler metal 8 through the diagonally cut small cylinder 4. The shape of the cylinder 10 is very slightly deformed by the function of a jig 12, by which the fiber 2 is positionally adjusted within the plane perpendicular to the optical axis. |
