PURPOSE:To prevent a compressor from being heated and protect a control circuit by a method wherein a control device, detecting the abnormality of operating current upon generating the abnormality in the compressor and stopping the compressor, is provided in the device. CONSTITUTION:The electric current of an A.C. electric source 5 is detected by an electric current detector (current transformer) 12 and the detected value is inputted into a microcomputer 4a through an A/D converter 13. When the microcomputer 4a receives an operation command in case the compressor 1 is locked, the microcomputer 4a outputs to an invertor driving unit 14 so as to start the compressor 1 with a starting frequency and sets a given time T1. When a value, detected by the electric current detector 12, is lower than a predetermined value or 12 A, for example, the microcomputer increase the frequency after the time T1, however, it decides that the compressor 1 is abnormal (locked) and stops the compressor when the detecting current has become 12 A.
