PURPOSE:To obtain a stable sharp color image by forming latent images in a potential distribution in accordance with a number of latent image forming cycles, and preventing mixing of mistaken color toners. CONSTITUTION:An image forming body 1 having a photosensitive layer on the surface rotates in the arrow direction, its surface is uniformly electrostatically charged with a charger 2, this charged surface is imagewise exposed 3A with respect to one color of all the colors to form an electrostatic image, and a toner image is formed with a developing device 4A. The body 1 is passed through developing devices 4B-4D, a transfer device 5, and a separator 6 without undergoing any action, and destaticized with a destaticizer 7, passed through a cleaning device 8 without undergoing any action, and returned to the initial stage. The body 1 is uniformly charged again with the charger 2, exposed 3B to the second color image, and the electrostatic image is developed with a developing device 4B. From that time forth, operations are conducted likewise, and when a toner image is formed with a developing device 4D, it is transferred with the transfer device 5. A stable sharp color image can be obtained by raising the potential difference between the exposed and unexposed areas, i.e., the contrast at the imagewise exposures 3A-3D in accordance with a number of the image forming cycles. |
