PURPOSE:To shorten processing time for reading by carrying a form at a speed corresponding to the distance between lines when scanning an area between lines of the form which is an area not to be read. CONSTITUTION:A photo-electric converting section 20 is provided with light sources 21a, 21b and a ling scanner 22, and scans on a form 23 and converts character patterns to electric signals. When scanned by the photo-electric converting section 20, the form 23 is carried by carrying rollers 25a, 25b and opposite pinch rollers 26a, 26b. A carrying scanning controlling section 29 prepares data for carrying and scanning of the form 23 basing on format control data FC, and stores in a memory 30. The form 23, scanned thus in the photo-electric converting section 20 is carried at a preset specified speed when a line to be read is carried at a preset specified speed when a ling to be read is scanned, and carried at shifting speed corresponding to the distance between lines when an area between lines is scanned. Accordingly, carrying time of the form at the time of scanning between lines can be decreased remarkably. |
