PURPOSE:To improve the durability of a magnetic recording medium by forming lubricating layers which are different from each other in material or thickness on the 1st and the 2nd sides of the medium so as to realize the most suitable lubricating conditions. CONSTITUTION:Magnetic layers 3 are formed on both sides of the nonmagnetic substrate 2 of a magnetic recording medium 1 for one-side recording. A lubricating layer 4 of 200-300Angstrom thickness is formed on the magnetic layer 3 not concerned with the recording and reproduction of data by spin-coating oleic acid. The layer 4 contacts with a head load pad 6. A lubricating layer 5 of 50-100Angstrom thickness is formed on the magnetic layer 3 concerned with the recording and reproduction of data by spin-coating oleic acid. The layer 5 contacts with a magnetic head 7. Since the layer 4 contacting with the pad 6 is thick, satisfactory durability is provided, and since the layer 5 contacting with the head 7 is thin, superior recording and reproducing characteristics are provided. |
