The microoptical element is obtained by a production process of the type comprising the steps of contacting the end of an optical fibre 1 with molten glass 11, the withdrawal of this optical fibre 1 and the formation of a spherical cap 2 as a result of the surface tensions which develop in the glass drop which adheres to the end of the optical fibre. According to the invention, the process furthermore comprises a step, before tempering (quenching), consisting of the formation, by localised heating, of a projecting shoulder 101 corresponding to the central regions of the optical fibre 1 and the contacting of this single projecting element 101 with the molten glass 11 so as to form a microoptical element 2 having the same diameter as the shoulder 101. <IMAGE>
