PURPOSE:To obtain thin plates of carbon material having neither attachment of SiC crystal, etc. nor variability of deformation and shrinkage factor, by blending main raw material powder of carbon with a binder, molding the blend to give thin plates of carbon material, put the thin plates in graphite cases with covers, graphitizing them. CONSTITUTION:Plural sheets of thin plates of carbon material 2 after calcination, having desired width and area, are covered with an expandable graphite sheet 11, and they are put in the main bodies 7 of graphite cases made by linking artificial graphite plates together. Two sheets of the sheets 11 are further laid on the top of the covered material, and the cover 7 made of the same material as that of the main bodies 7 is placed on the sheets. In this operation, there is a gap between the main bodies 7 and the covers. Face pressure is adjusted to show 1kg/cm<2> when the gap disappears and they are stuck fast to each other. The plural graphite cases containing thin plates of carbon material are arranged in series in the electric furnace 1, the spacers 4a are inserted between them, the cases are pressed by the graphite electrodes 4 and 4' from both the sides, and the packing powder 3 is packed into the surroundings of the graphite cases. Electricity is applied to the electrodes in this state, the cases are heated up to 3,000 deg.C, the thin plates of carbon material are graphitized, to obtain thin plates of carbon material free from attachment of foreign matters such as SiC crystal, etc. |
