PURPOSE:To provide a phosphor which has improved stimulation afterglow characteristics as well as improved stimulated emission brightness, is suitable for use in the production of radiation image conversion panels and comprises a bivalent Eu-activated barium fluorohalide contg. Ca and Sr. CONSTITUTION:A bivalent Eu-activated barium fluorohalide phosphor of the formula (wherein X, X' are each Cl, Br, I; 0<a+b<=5X10<-2>, abnot equal to 0, 0<C<=2.0, 0< x<=0.2). By incorporating Ca and Sr in quantities within the specified range in a bivalent Eu-activated barium fluorohalide phosphor contg. a sodium halide, its stimulation afterglow characteristics can be greatly improved and the phosphor exhibits stimulated emission with high brightness. When a radiation image conversion panel using said phosphor is used, sensitivity in a radiation image recording and reproducing method can be improved and an image of good quality can be consistently obtd.
