The closure plate pair (10) consists of plates (11, 12) which are arranged in a manner which allows them to be displaced in one direction (L) while sealing one against the other and are provided with in each case at least one throughflow opening (20, 22). The throughflow openings (20, 22) have an at least approximately square cross-section and are formed in such a way in the plates (11, 12) that their diagonals (20', 22') on the one hand extend in the displacement direction (L) of the plates (11, 12) and on the other hand lie in a plane (24). This ensures that the closure plate pair (10) inserted into the sliding closure forms a throughflow cross-section (14) with which an approximately square shape from the full to a highly throttled open position of the sliding closure and hence also a uniform compact stream of melt flowing out in each open position is guaranteed. <IMAGE>
