A Getter shape for use in high-intensity incandescent and discharge lamps, comprising a nickel tube which is sufficiently porous to allow gases to pass through, the Getter material being contained in the nickel tube. The nickel tube can be used instead of the supporting wires in high-intensity discharge lamps, and can be used instead of the supply wires in incandescent lamps. Alternatively, the porous nickel tube, which contains the Getter material, can be wound around the supporting rods of the discharge lamp, or the supply wires of the incandescent lamp, close to the discharge tube or to the incandescent filament respectively.
