Heat exchanger

Inserted between the compressor and liquefier of a heat pump, e.g. of a room air conditioner, is a heat exchanger which consists of spirally extending heat-exchanging surfaces which feed the heat of the hot gas leaving the compressor to a partition which communicates with the heat exchanging surfaces on the water side. A water current flows from the periphery to the centre, while the hot gas flows from the centre to the periphery. The surface of the gas-side heat-exchanging surfaces behaves with respect to the surface of the water-side heat-exchanging surfaces as the heat transfer coefficient of the water to the heat transfer coefficient of the hot gas.
