PURPOSE:To obtain a display element which is lightweight and thin although it is large in size by using such a liquid crystal display substrate that the thickness of a polarizing film itself consisting of a light dichroic material and hydrophobic resin is less than a specific value, or setting the thickness of a laminate of a polarizing film and a reinforcing material larger than a specific value. CONSTITUTION:The substrate uses the polarizing film itself formed by incorporating the light dichroic material such as iodine and dichroic dye in transparent hydrophobic resin, such as polyether and polyester, which can be drawn or the laminate of the polarizing film and reinforcing agent hydrophobic resin which has no polarizing polarity. The thickness of this substrate is set between 100mu and 500mum to obtain thickness uniformity and flatness. A transparent electrode is formed on one surface of this polarizing film and silane orienting agent is applied and rubbed; and two substrates are joined together across a seal agent to form a liquid crystal cell. Thus, the liquid crystal display element which is thin and ligthweight and can be curved is obtained. |
