PURPOSE:To read effectively the picture of an unfixed-size original by scanning manually the picture to attain the scan of desired part and to prevent the waste for transmission of undesired information. CONSTITUTION:A simple facsimile consists of a scan part connected to a facsimile main body 20 via a cable 7 and a telephone 30. The rollers 2 and 3 which move at a high speed along a housing 1 at the scan part over an original 10 and a fluorescent lamp 4 which irradiates light to the original 10 are provided to the housing 1. Furthermore a line sensor 5 is provided to the housing 1 to detect the reflected light sent from the original 10. This sensor 5 is connected to the cable 7 via a driver 6. Then the pictures on the original 10 are scanned manually after attaining an independent movement of the scan part from the main body 20. Thus a desired part can be scanned and the pictures on an original of an unfixed size can be read with high efficiency.
