PURPOSE:To reproduce a line such as a black narrow line distinct by extracting the minimum dense pictue signals from among three color picture signals; yellow, Magenta, and cyan and by providing a means to form black picture signals on the basis of these picture signals. CONSTITUTION:The picture signals obtained by disssolving the picture in a multicolor original into three colors; yellow, magenta, and cyan by photoelectric converters 1-3 are converted into digital picure signals respectively by AD converters 4-6. The respective color digital picture signals are inputted in an operator 7, where the signals are used to form the black digital picture signals to form black digital picture signal. The black picture signals for contour processing are formed by extracting, for example, the minimum dense picture signals among three color picture signals at a point where the brightness of the respective colors; yellow, magenta, and cyan and chroma saturation largely change in the same direction.
