PURPOSE:To enhance preservation stability, by a method wherein a recording layer is made to be basic after thermal printing, in a recording material having a multilayer construction wherein one of three components of a coupler compound, a p-phenylenediamine compound and a reaction accelerator is separated from the other components by a separating layer formed of a high molecular weight compound. CONSTITUTION:One of the three components of a coupler compound incorporated in the recording layer on a base through a binder, a p-phenylenediamine compound capable of forming a dye by reacting with the coupler compound and a reaction accelerator for accelerating the reaction is separated from the other components by the separating layer formed of a high molecular weight compound based on an oil or water. The recording layer of the recording material having the above multilayer construction is served to application of a basic substance after thermal printing. First, the recording layer is heated to break the separating layer, thereby mixing the color forming components contained in the recording layer. Next, the pH of the system is raised by applying an aqueous solution of a basic substance or blowing a vapor of a basic substance to the system, thereby causing a coupling reaction. Under the action of the accelerator, the reaction proceeds rapidly to form a color in high density. |
