PURPOSE:To prevent deterioration in activation of catalyst as much as possible and alleviate lowering of characteristic of reaction gas electrode layer by adjusting electrical load of battery in such a way that a generated voltage of unit battery does not exceed 0.8 volt. CONSTITUTION:A voltage detector 23 generates a detected voltage signal Sv which is proportional to a voltage generated by a battery to a comparator 24a of chopper controller 24. An adjusting start voltage setter 25 generates a voltage to be load-adjusted, namely a reference voltage signal Sr which is proportional to 0.8V per unit battery to the comparator 24. The comparator 24a compares this reference voltage signal Sr with the detected voltage signal Sv. When the latter exceeds the former, the comparator generates an adjustment command signal Sa and controls ignition of chopper apparatus 22 through an ignition circuit 24c. A voltage of battery is suppressed to the predetermined value or less by giving an adjustment load 21 to the battery. Thereby, a problem of melting of fine powder metal catalyst in the oxide gas electrode layer and overflow of catalyst based on corrosion by oxidation of carrier can be prevented. |
