The invention relates to a process for the elimination of contaminating organic chemical compounds, in particular phenols, chlorinated hydrocarbons or pesticides, from waters or waste waters. The process according to the invention is characterised in that the waters or waste waters are continuously passed through an adsorber resin for the organic compounds, the adsorber resin, after being loaded with organic contaminants, is freed therefrom by washing with a solvent for the organic contaminants and the solvent-washed adsorber resin, before reuse for the adsorption of organic compounds, is freed from solvent by flushing with gas.
