A fireproof window wall is to be improved, and in particular consisting of an external frame assembled non-rigidly from upper chord 5, windowsill 3 and vertical stay bars 4, and possibly additional vertical stay bars and/or horizontal stay bars, likewise non-rigidly inserted in the external frame, for forming smaller frames, the frame parts in each case being manufactured from reinforced concrete, and fire protection glazing 7 closing the frames. Known window walls of this type are made as a closed component. They afford no ventilation possibility and represent an impenetrable barrier for escape from threatened spaces. In order to overcome these disadvantages, it is proposed that, in at least one frame, the fire protection glazing 7 is inserted into a metal window casement 6 which is held rotatably by a metal window frame 1 arranged between the frame parts 3, 4, 5, there being arranged on the inside of the window frame 1 a closing device 8 which is connected mechanically to the window casement 6 and which has a control device which reacts to smoke for triggering the closing mechanism, and that the window frame 1 and the window casement 6 have a thermal-protection layer, and that there is provided between the window frame 1 and the window casement 6 a swelling means 11 for sealing, which becomes active at high temperatures.
