The supermarket trolley has two wire baskets (20,22) attached to the handles (6,7), leaving a space below for carrying boxes, cartons, etc. (4). The baskets are supported by a folding frame. When folded, this frame lies flat on a wheeled base (1), with the baskets removed. When assembled, the smaller front basket (22) hangs on the rear one (20). The handle is U-shaped, with an upper hinge (14) on each side arm (7) for a swing arm (12) connected by a lower hinge (13) to the base (3). The lower circuitry (8) of each arm is connected by a sliding link (16) to a short swing arm (9) connected at the bottom by another hinge (11) to the forward part of the base. The sliding link is lifted to release the short swing arm for folding. When in the erected condition, this link is held down in its locked position by a projecting lug (17) engaged by the rear basket. |
