PURPOSE:To store information with a high density by using a magnetic medium which has an isotropic axis of easy magnetization and allowing magnetization in a desired position of this medium to remain in a desired three-dimensional direction and storing information in accordance with the direction of this remaining magnetization. CONSTITUTION:In case that desired magnetic information is stored in a desired position of a magnetic medium 1, not only the light from a light source 5 is controlled by an optical deflector 7 and a condenser lens 9 and is irradiated to the desired position of the magnetic medium but also three-dimensional magnetic field generators 3 (3xa-3zb) are controlled to impress a magnetic field in a desired three-dimensional direction to the irradiated part of the magnetic medium. As the result, the temperature of the irradiated part rises to reduce the coercive force in this part of the magnetic medium, and magnetization in this part of the magnetic medium is arranged in the direction of the magnetic field impressed from three-dimensional magnetic field generators 3. The irradiation of light is stopped after the magnetization in said part is arranged in the desired direction, thereby storing information in this part by the direction of magnetization. |
