PURPOSE:To implement high speed and high accuracy, by holding a sample by two parallel plates so as to change the thickness of the sample, measuring the area of binary coded picture formed by a TV camera, and computing the viscosity from the time change of spreading area of the sample by an operation and control part. CONSTITUTION:When a parallel plate 13 begins to compress a sample 11 on a parallel plate 12, a fall detector 19 detects the fall of the plate 13 and outputs the result to an operation and control part 18. The control part 18 sends a measurement starting signal to an area counter 17 so as to start the measuring operation of the spread of a sample 11. The counter 17 is triggered by the control part 18 at every specified time interval and reads the measured data from a TV camera 16 every time. The signal is binary-coded. The picture elements having a value 1 or 0 in the binary coded picture are counted, and the result is sent to the control part 18 as area data. The control part 18 computes the viscosity of the sample 11 based on the area data. A light source 14 projects the light on the sample 11 through a diffuser 5, which diffuses the light uniformly. |
