PURPOSE:To increase the longitudinal length of the opening made in an externally sliding type roof, when the opening and closing lid is opened, by constituting an opening and closing lid guide of two guides which are arranged in parallel with each other. CONSTITUTION:For completely opening an opening and closing lid 2, a tilt-up mechanism 51 is actuated to swing up a driving lever 52 and a frame-side sub guide rail 41 is swung upward about the center of a supporting shaft 43, whereby tilting up the rear part 5 of the opening and closing lid via a rear slide stay 61. A driving cable not illustrated in the drawing is slided rearward to pull the opening and closing lid 2 toward a rear part roof 6 via a front slide stay 41. Such parallel arrangement of a main guide rail 32 and the frame-side sub guide rail 41 prevents the front and rear stays 11 and 61 from relative interference so that said stays may be guided by guide rails 32 and 41, respectively to make forward and rear slide. Thus the stroke of the opening and closing lid 2 is elongated, hence increasing the longitudinal length of the open part of the sun roof.
