The invention relates to a sign carrier having a carrier part in the shape of a cap profile whose front flanges, adjoining the profile part on both sides, serve to mount the sign, and whose profile part has devices for receiving securing means by which the carrier part can be fixed to the device to be identified, a retaining strap being provided which engages around the device to be identified, and having a tensioning device interacting with the retaining strap, it being possible to secure the carrier part, directly or indirectly, on the device to be identified by means of the retaining strap and the clamping device.
