PURPOSE:To measure the linearity of a track in an excellent way by recording each signal of a high and a low frequency on each other track of a standard type tape to attain visual observation at the development of recorded tracks. CONSTITUTION:Pilot signals f1-f4 are applied sequentially to each video head with different azimuth, and a signal 1a whose magnetic pattern is observed easily to a developer and having a comparatively lower frequency and a signal 1b having a comparatively higher frequency whose magnetic pattern is not visible are recorded sequentially at an interval of recording tracks by each head. The track for the signal 1a is developed by applying the developer to a prescribed part of the standard type tape. Thus, the track 1a is visible and the linearity of the recording tracks is measured by the crossing method.
