PURPOSE:To prepare glutathione useful as a remedy for hepatic diseases, economically, in high efficiency, by immobilizing glucose-assimilable yeast together with glutathione-producing enzyme, and conjugating the reaction of saccharolytic enzymes with the reaction of flutahione-producing enzymes. CONSTITUTION:(A) An yeast capable of assimilating glucose and converting to CO2 and ethanol (e.g. Saccharomyces cerevisiae IFO 2044) and (B) a microbial or enzyme capable of producing glutathione (e.g. Escherichia coli ATCC 23226) are immobilized in a same gel lattice of a polymer gel, e.g. polyacryl amide gel, carrageenan gel, etc. The immobilized product is made contact with L-glutamic acid, L-cysteine and glycine, in the presence of glucose or its intermediate metabolic product (e.g. glucose-6-phosphoric acid), to produce glutathione. |
